No, you don’t need a referral from a doctor or pediatrician. Many families self-refer when they have concerns about learning, attention, behaviour, or emotional well-being
Make sure they are well-rested, have eaten, and bring any necessary items like glasses or medication information. We recommend describing the sessions as activities or puzzles that help us understand how they learn, rather than as a “test.” A comfort item can help younger children feel at ease.
Our assessments are designed to be supportive and comfortable. We use standardized tools but make the process engaging with breaks as needed. Most children find the activities enjoyable and appreciate the one-on-one attention.
All information is strictly confidential. We only share results with other professionals or schools with your written consent.
Intake interviews, feedback meetings, and some adult assessment components can be completed virtually. Most standardized testing must be in-person to ensure accurate results. We’ll discuss the best format for your needs
Psychoeducational assessment results are generally considered valid for approximately two to five years. This is a broad guideline, as the length of time results are accepted can vary depending on the institution, school board, or organization, as well as their specific documentation requirements. During this period, assessment findings may be used to support educational planning, inform programming decisions, and monitor progress over time.
Parents and children participate in different parts of the assessment: Parents attend the intake appointment and the feedback meeting. These sessions are for adults only and do not require the child to be present. Children attend only the testing sessions. These sessions may be completed in 2-3 visits depending on age, stamina, and scheduling.
